Rafa’s Moving Up Ceremony at Araneta Center

March 28, 2025

We were at Araneta Center one early for Rafa's Moving Up Ceremony.

A few weeks ago, Rafa’s daycare school had their Moving Up Ceremony at Araneta Center at Cubao. Their teacher’s instructions were for the children and the parents to be present in the said event (in short, bawal kami mag-absent) and to be early at the venue (6:00 AM call time because the program will begin promptly at 7:00 AM.

Syempre, since we were coming from Novaliches, we left our house early just to be able to make it on time. And because it was still dark, the traffic in the highway was still bearable. We arrived at Araneta Center just in time but the lines were still chaotic and the guards were trying to get the attendees organized.

As it turned out, the attendees were way more than I expected. Akala ko mga daycare centers lang around our vicinity but it was actually the whole of Quezon City. Nung nasa loob na kami, I learned that there were more than 9,000 attendees at Araneta Center that time. At this point, medyo kinakabahan na ko at napapaisip kung kaya ba magmartsa ng 9,000 students in less than an hour? I can only wait.

The program started with the usual speech from the guest of honor, who was Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte. Here speech was moving and was apt for the little children who were in the audience. After ng speech ni Mayor Joy, nasagot na ang tanong na select or representative students lang ang aakyat sa stage.

Naisip ko na sayang sa oras dahil nakaupo lang kami at nanonood throughout the ceremony. Kumbaga, parang wala naman talaga naganap na Moving Up Ceremony for Rafa as well as his classmates.

Si Rafa nga, super inip na and hungry na raw sya so we decided to leave early before the whole Araneta crowd scrambled to get out of the venue. We made it outside just in time because the program ended about five minutes after we left.

Anyway, when we got home, ang sabi nga ni yaya, moral of the experience is that kahit hindi natupad or nangyari yung inaasahan naming, it was still a bonding moment for Rafa and me and a good memory that we would keep for life.
