This second visit at High Street Cafe gave me the opportunity to appreciate the food in this restaurant even more.
Decembers are full of celebrations in our family, not just because of the holidays but also because of our loved ones who have birthdays in this month. Anyway, instead of ordering food at home, we decided to just have lunch at High Street Café in Shangri-La at The Fort. It’s actually our second time to be here, the first one being for Miguel’s birthday in 2023. I think I appreciated the food more during this recent visit, possibly because I had more time to explore the different food stations.
I like to start my meal with a few slices of steak from the carving station, then I will have a salad for the sides and a few pieces of cold seafood like mussels and clams.

After finishing my first plate, I would go to the Japanese food station to get a few pieces of sushi (I also usually get some slices of sashimi, but I skipped it this time). I like High Street Café’s sushi rolls; they’re fresh and delicious and I enjoy them so much. In fact, I just had to control myself from getting more since I still wanted to get food from the other food stations.

I also like to visit the grill station to get a few pieces of grilled river shrimp. I couldn’t forget the smoky, juicy, and plump river during our first visit so I just had to try this again. I think this was a hit with many diners because the lines are long and the shrimp are gone in an instant.

In fact, the chef was still grilling the shrimp when I got to the station. Good thing I was first in line so I was able to get a few pieces of river shrimp immediately after they were done. I like the simplicity of this dish because it was just cooked in butter with a little salt as seasoning. The shrimp were fresh; the meat was sweet as such, you don’t need too much seasonings for it.

At this point, I’m already starting to get full, but I still like to taste some of the food items at the cheese and cold cuts station, and some more cold seafood. I only took a few pieces because I might not be able to finish them. Plus, I wanted to save room for some dessert because I know High Street Café has a good ice cream station and some of my favorite pastries.

When it was time for dessert, I requested a scoop of cheese and ube ice cream at the ice cream station. The cheese ice cream was phenomenal; I don’t know how to describe it but it was unlike any other cheese flavors I’ve tasted before. It was really good and I would encourage you to try it if ever you get to dine at High Street Café. I paired my ice cream with a few pieces of Brazo de Mercedes.
All in all, we had a wonderful family lunch and celebration at High Street Café. The atmosphere was also festive because of the coming holidays so everybody was in a jovial mood.
