Sharing our unforgettable experience at High Street Cafe in Shangri-La The Fort.
We celebrated Miguel’s 5th birthday at Shangri-La The Fort’s High Street
Café. I must say that the restaurant is quite impressive, with several
international food stations that one may choose from. All in all, we had a
superb dining experience at High Street Café.
High Street Café: A Sumptuous Family Lunch For Miguel’s Birthday
High Street Café’s ambiance
High Street Café is very spacious, with high ceilings and large windows that
feature a spectacular view of BGC. The interiors are also well-lit, perfect
for happy celebrations or any other family gatherings. High Street Café
features a food hall concept, with well-designed food stations to make diners
feel like they were traveling from one exotic destination to the next.
I also like that High Street Café didn’t feel congested. In fact, Miguel and
Rafa were able to run around without bumping anybody or toppling anything.
The food at High Street Café
The highlight of any dining experience is, of course, the food. At High Street
Café, the food is outstanding as one would expect. The restaurant is composed
of several food stations featuring Western, Pan-Asian, Chinese, Japanese,
Mediterranean and rotisserie dishes, seafood, a salad bar, and a dessert
station.
Roast beef |
I like to begin my meal with a slice (or two) of either steak or roast beef
from the carving station. It was roast beef that was available at High Street
Café so I had that with black pepper sauce. The meat was medium and was very
tender. I usually pair it with salad topped with cold cuts and cheese.
I also helped myself to a few pieces of grilled river shrimp and I was happily
surprised by how good it was. The shrimps were meaty and tasted sweet; the
smoky aroma infused it with an even more exquisite flavor.
Grilled river shrimps |
After finishing my initial plate, I helped myself to another serving of salad
and cheeses, more grilled shrimp, mussels, beef brisket (very tender), and
then dessert. What struck me with the dessert station is the nine ice cream
flavors that diners can choose from. There are classic flavors, sugar-free
variants, and even unique flavors like burnt rice (literally tasted like burnt
rice that was milky and creamy).
Mussels |
It might seem that I only consumed a small amount of food but I was already
stuffed at this point. It seems like my capacity for buffet food has
significantly diminished with age.
While we were enjoying adult food, Miguel and Rafa were happily helping
themselves to an unlimited serving of sweets, ice cream, and slices of cake.
We just let them be, anyway, it’s not every day that we get to eat in such a
wonderful restaurant.
Ice cream |
Since it was also Miguel’s 5th birthday, he received a whole cake (and a
birthday song from the servers)
The Price
As with any other hotel buffet restaurant, the price at High Street Café is
not for the budget-conscious. The lunch buffet is Php1,950 on weekdays
(PHP2,300 on weekends). However, since my sister-in-law is an employee at
Shangri-La The Fort, we were able to enjoy a 50% discount. In terms of
payment, credit card and cash are accepted.
Epilogue
We definitely enjoyed eating at Shangri-La The Fort’s High Street Café. The
food is excellent and the interiors of the restaurant look classy yet
homey.
Birthday cake |
All in all, we had a wonderful time at High Street Café. Our kids also enjoyed
their stay and Mommy Khris and I were happy about it. After all, we really
wanted them to have a great day. In the end, we went home happy and satisfied.
