I consider St. Jude Thaddeus Church as one of the most solemn churches in Metro Manila.
A decade ago, I randomly captured a photo of a father carrying his toddler son outside the St. Jude Thaddeus Church in San Miguel, Manila and it has instantly become my favorite. I admit that it’s nothing compared to photos taken by professional photographers and even hobbyists. However, I do like how it’s composed considering that, again, it’s an unintentional shot. I like the calmness and assurance beaming from the little boy’s innocent face as well as the sturdy yet loving way his father held him.
Wordless Wednesday: Father & Son Outside St. Jude Church
Anyway, I was really trying to capture a picture of St. Jude Church but the low light probably shifted the focus of my Canon 400D to the father and son who were also attending Mass that night. Moreover, I remember that I was struggling at that time because my camera was already acting up. In fact, my Canon 400D completely gave up just a few months after I took that photo.
By the way, if you would like to pray for a wish or intention to be granted, then I highly recommend that you go to St. Jude Thaddeus Church. It has been a tradition for devotees to go here and light a candle if they are praying for something to come true. The candles are also color-coded depending on a person’s wishes such as good health, a good career, success in business, and so forth.
I’ve been to the St. Jude Thaddeus twice, the first one was after our Geologist Board Exam. Of course, my friends and I prayed that we all pass the exam, and it came true. The second one was in 2011, the time when I took the photo above. It was right after attending the Traslacion of the Black Nazarene during the Holy Week.
My friend and I decided to complete the Visita Iglesia and we included St. Jude Church in our itinerary because it’s one of our favorite churches in Metro Manila. I’m not sure if there are already in-person Masses in St. Jude Church but it’s recommended for people who are looking for a solemn celebration.
