If you've ever wondered what food trends are here to stay, then read on.
With lots of reels and posts to show us the latest food trends, it can
sometimes get tiresome to try everything out. If anything, it’s still best
to go back to the basics. Fortunately, there are great food trends that
never really went away. They’re so tried and tested you won’t even doubt
them being off the list for quite some time.

9 Food Trends That Are Here To Stay
Below are some of these trends, some samples under each category, and why they
managed to stay on top of the list for a long time now.
Comfort Food
They’re timeless for a good reason: they bring comfort to whoever eats them.
It doesn’t have to be anything fancy. Even just some of your go-to
ready-to-eat food in the fridge will do, as long as they help you feel better
overall.
Here are some of the classics under this category:
- Egg-based Dishes: fritatas, omelettes, poached egg on avocado toast
- Pasta: seafood-based, cream-based, tomato-based
- Basically Anything Carbs: chocolate cakes, breads
Of course, these are just some of the examples, and each person can have a
different comfort food they prefer to have anytime. The key here is to know
which type of food tickles your fancy every time. Basically, there’s no right
or wrong answer here!
Organic Ingredients
Lately, people are becoming more health-conscious for a variety of
reasons–fear of illnesses, worry for loved ones who might get left behind, and
self-care, among other plethora or reasons.
Technically, there’s no specific recipe that requires organic ingredients. Any
recipe with the usual “market ingredients” can get a quick level up if you use
some organic ingredients to switch things up a bit.
It becomes even better if the ingredients came from your own background.
Somehow, it gives off that great sense of fulfillment for growing your own
food.
If you think you need to
learn how to cook, get started by
checking out different websites that feature organic ingredients. Since
organic ingredients will most likely never really go out of style, you can
expect more trendy recipes with organic ingredients as their main bases.
Gourmet Dishes
Specifically, the fancy version of the classics that we’ve known for so long
can go a long way. Ever heard of gourmet tuyo? Yep, that’s just the start of
the entire list. Even beef jerky, pastas, and cakes were not safe from the
food makeovers.
Fortunately, it’s not just the plating and the overall appearance that got a
facelift but also the taste of the dishes. With the help of various herbs and
spices, you can even make the otherwise bland and sad dishes noteworthy stars
of your future meals.
Vegetarian Dishes
Especially now that vegan dishes are on the rise, you can expect more recipes
that use meat substitutes, such as tofu and watermelon.
Kids’ Menu
Perhaps, the only time that this trend will totally go away is when there will
be no more children around (think end of the world or something like that). In
other words, this may be one of the food trends that will stand all the tests
of time.
For starters, here are some of the food items you can find under this
category:
- Ice cream
- Mac and cheese
- Chicken tender strips
- Pizza and its varieties, such as pizza pockets and pizza rolls
Fortunately, you don’t have to be a kid to enjoy these things. Some folks even
revert to these food choices and consider at least one of these as their
comfort food.
To make things even more interesting, some of the food items above have their
“adult counterparts”. Think boozy ice creams, pastas with rum or wine, and
even alcohol-laced gummy bears–the possibilities are endless!
Sustainable Cooking
In a nutshell, this is a cooking method that uses food scraps to create a wide
variety of alternative dishes. To be honest, that definition is a bit of a
disservice to the end products, as you can’t even tell that the final products
are made of residual parts of the usual ingredients used for the common dishes
around.
Sure, the cooked dishes may not always look pretty (according to the typical
standards), but this doesn’t mean that they are not at par with the taste of
other dishes. Most of them are nutrient-dense as well so you can rest assured
that you won’t ruin your diet by indulging yourself to a bite or two.
Some examples of sustainable cooking are the following:
- Cutting the broccoli’s leaves and stalks into thin slices and including them in your usual veggie stir-fry dishes
- Using the banana peels for vegan bacon or as an additional ingredient for your banana bread
- Baking the thinly-sliced apple peels into chips
For this type of food trend, use your imagination to come up with ideas on how
to make the most out of the food you buy from the market. In some cases, you
may have to modify and experiment a little to get your desired results. Online
recipes are also your friends to help you get started.
Fondue
To be very strict about it, fondue is made from cheese. But over the last few
years, there are also trends to help switch things up. Aside from chocolate
fondue, there are also those with marshmallow bases and other things sweet and
tangy.
As in the other food trends listed above, use your creativity to come up with
the perfect fondue for your next meal or potluck. You may use a variety of
herbs, spices, aromatics, and even ingredients like wine and rum to make
things interesting. You may add a secret ingredient or two to make your fondue
stand out from the rest.
Bento Meals
With the re-emergence of face-to-face classes is the great comeback of the
bento meals. While they never really left the list of trends there are, they
are now more prevalent than ever because of how they look and how convenient
they are for students and even professionals alike.
All you need to go with this trend is a trusty lunchbox (preferably with
dividers), different bites to fit into your lunchbox, and your creativity to
make your bento meal unique.
As far as pegs are concerned, you can see most of them on various social media
sites. There are even pages that are solely dedicated to creating at least one
bento arrangement per day.
Anything Cheese
After all, who hates cheese? For sure, there are some who can’t stand the
flavor but most likely, they can be considered a minority.
As you can see, you can find cheese as an option in a lot of foods in the
market today. Spaghetti? Top that with lots of cheddar! Salads? How about some
cheese cubes for a quick protein and fat boost? Cheese in milk tea? You bet
that’s also a thing!
At the end of the day, classic food finds are those that a lot of people swear
to amidst the bulk of crazy trends that notify us through our social media
feeds. It’s still your call to know which ones you will follow and which ones
you will have to let go for some reason.
Whatever you choose, don’t be pressured by what other people have to say and
just enjoy it while the trends last–and even if they don’t!
