Lola Nena’s in Fairview
We got to try Lola Nena’s when my brother-in-law took home a box of the
triple-cheese donut. I love anything cheese-filled so it was intriguing right
away.
It was also my first time to hear about Lola Nena’s and apparently, they have
a branch in Fairview, so it would be easier to order from them whenever we
wanted the triple-cheese donut as well as the other items in their menu.
I learned later on that Lola Nena’s was also known for its delicious special
pichi-pichi, pancit or noodle dishes, siopao tostado, and ready-to-cook
dishes.
What is Lola Nena’s old-fashioned triple cheese-filled donut?
Lola Nena’s old-fashioned triple cheese-filled donuts sprinkled with sugar
instantly caught my fancy because it reminded me of my childhood days in my
little town of San Antonio, Nueva Ecija. Our favorite Saturday afternoon snack
is a bag of donuts bought from a local bakeshop and prepared the traditional
way. It was oily and sugary and we would pair it with a big bottle of Coke.
That local donut from our town wasn’t cheese-filled though but it was good,
with all its simplicity and straightforwardness.
The old-fashioned triple cheese-filled donut is probably the bestseller in
Lola Nena’s food lineup. It’s not filled with three kinds of cheese though but
it’s triple the amount of cheese as compared to the Classic Donuts variant. If
you just want a hint of cheesy saltiness in your donut, you should just get
the Classic Donuts.
Box of Lola Nena's old fashioned triple cheese filled donut |
The bread is big, like the ensaimada bread sold in neighborhood bakeshops, and it’s soft and airy. It’s also really filling; eating two pieces of the donut will leave you feeling happily stuffed.
How to enjoy Lola Nena’s old-fashioned triple cheese filled donut
You can enjoy the donuts as is, straight out of the box. However, what I do
recommend is to heat the donuts for a few minutes in the microwave or the oven
toaster until the cheese inside melts and becomes gooey. Trust me, doing this
will elevate the taste as well as the overall eating experience of the triple
cheese-filled donut.
Cheese filling |
The warm bread becomes more fragrant with the smell of sugar, margarine, and
melted cheese. As you bite into the filling, the slightly salty and gooey
cheese combines with the sugar on top of the donut, creating a well-balanced
flavor that will leave you wanting more.
I love to eat Lola Nena’s triple cheese-filled donut with coffee and I think
it will also go well with a glass of ice-cold Coke.
