When looking for accommodation, we always try to find one that is proximate to the town or city’s attractions and shopping destinations. Such was our criteria when we chose Golden Gate Suites, conveniently located in the heart of downtown Dumaguete City. The best that the city has to offer is just one tricycle ride away. Of course, the good reviews posted on Travelbook convinced us even more to choose Golden Gate Suites.
The best way to immerse oneself in a particular region’s culture is to eat like a local. And that’s exactly what we did during our recent trip to Dumaguete City. Its food scene offers a good mix of traditional and modern cuisine, catering to the myriad tourists that flock the city. Being a waterfront settlement, expect seafood to be abundant, readily available and affordable at Dumaguete.
Our journey to Dumaguete City is probably the longest we have embarked on so far. When we were planning this trip, we really wanted to sort of immerse ourselves in the experience by traveling via land. We left Bantayan Island before lunch and were at Hagnaya Port after 40 minutes. We boarded a Ceres Bus bound for Tabo-an (Php165/pax) and requested to be dropped off at South Bus Terminal.
I Love Bohol Beach Club
A lazy day at the beach and a visit to the Bohol Bee Farm comprised our itinerary for our second day. We were to travel to Panglao to visit one of its famous beaches but before proceeding, we had a brief photo session at the blood compact (Sandugo) shrine. Here, life-size bronze statues of Spanish explorer Miguel Lopez de Legazpi and Datu Sikatuna, Bohol’s chieftain, stand to depict the blood compact between the two leaders. The blood compact ritual sealed the friendship between Boholanos and the Spaniards.
