For those wanting a quick respite from the congestion, pollution and fast-paced life in the metro, Tagaytay is the destination to go. Tagaytay is only about two hours away from Metro Manila but the contrast in ambiance and scenery between the two locations is very striking. The former takes pride in its cool and chilly breeze, a picturesque view of Taal Lake and Taal Volcano, exciting eco-tourism activities, beautiful churches and charming restaurants, just to name a few. And for those who love beef, meat is very affordable in Tagaytay’s Mahogany Market. For the last several years, Tagaytay is our go-to place for unplanned family weekends.
Getting to Tagaytay is easy because it’s just a straight drive through SLEX. Here are two options:
SLEX via Sta. Rosa Exit
SLEX via Eton Exit
Khris’ family owns a charming little house in Tagaytay so accommodation is never a problem for us. Nonetheless, we would still like to try one of the boutique hotels in the city when our budget permits.
l. Chapel on the Hill (Don Bosco Batulao, Brgy. Cahil, Calaca Batangas)
Chapel on the Hill is perched on the edge of a ridge. This popular wedding destination provides a majestic view of Mt. Batulao. It’s a small chapel that is perfect for intimate weddings.
2. Caleruega Church (Caleruega, Batulao, Nasugbu, Batangas)
This picturesque church made of terracotta bricks is another popular wedding destination in Tagaytay. Calaruega is actually located in Nasugbu, Batangas but is often included in the must-visit places in Tagaytay. There is an entrance fee of Php70 per head.
3. Bag of Beans
A popular restaurant in Tagaytay, Bag of Beans is more well-known for its freshly-baked pastries. Nevertheless, must try also are the savory dishes it offers. As of February 2016, Bag of Beans has three branches in Tagaytay.
4. Sky Ranch Tagaytay
5. Taal Lake and Taal Volcano
For the more adventurous, you may arrange for a tour of Taal Lake and a hike in Taal Volcano. There are many tour operators in the city that may arrange your preferred tour.
6. Little Souls Sisters Convent
This is another popular destination for Sunday masses. Just across it is a small store-café that sells one of the best coconut cream pies.
These are just a handful of the destinations that you can visit in Tagaytay. There are still many places to explore in this charming City. All you need is a little spark of adventure in you to explore the less popular but equally stunning sites in Tagaytay. And for us, we always look forward to our next family weekend in Tagaytay.
